This past fourth of July, I went into the city with my friends to see some fireworks. As we were watching, one of my friends explained a tradition of hers by which she dedicated each firework to someone she loved as it was on its way up. The one that I dedicated to Dillon turned out to be the most spectacular firework of the night—and somehow this didn’t surprise me. I felt like he was watching and smiling down on the celebrations. I still miss his smile and think of him often, particularly when I write. He’s still with us all, and he always will be.
